King Salami & the Cumberland Three, London’s greatest rhythm’n’blues beat sensation, return with their 50s & 60s-influenced wild and crazy sounds. The King howls and growls like Screamin’ Jay greased up with Andre Williams’ ‘Bacon Fat’. He never stops twistin’ and a-movin’ while his wurst men bash out vintage rock’n’roll with a li’l bit o’ soul to boot. Plus, from Japan, the youthful crooner Nao-kun and The Stompin’ Riff Raffs, his band of masked, glittering, shimmying banditas ripping it up with 50s surf’n’roll and 60s frat rock. Spilling drinks and dancing on tables is compulsory.

" Officially the sickest DJs in the South, Stay Sick will mostly be playing filthy RocknRoll, dirty FunknSoul and whatever takes the fancy of these Bourbon soaked geniuses with a seamlessly never ending record collection. If youve never experienced a Stay Sick clubnight, youve probably never fallen over, had beer poured all over your head, been groped by go-go dancers and drank a litre of Makers Mark  and thats a crying shame."

"This is a set at the decks that threatens to take everything green and lovely about the Playgroup setting and turn it Bourbon-brown. Filthy rocknroll and dirty funknsoul from a Tardis-like record crate  this is your soundtrack to getting messy, flattening your quiff with flying booze and generally dragging up the party from the past."

"It might not be everyones barometer of a good night out, but there was a lot of falling over at Stay Sick and we think that might be the core of why its so great. Basically, the crowd go wild. Jumping on each other, throwing themselves around, dancing on tables  and they do it with such abandonment that they take a tumble now and again. You can tell from the pictures that the crowd are into it, so many people dress to the nines, embracing the 50s and 60s vibe of tattoos and pin up girls. And all this in what is essentially a pub. Whats causing such devotion and delirium? Quite simply, its the music. Proper rocknroll garage sleaze from a set of DJs who know the era inside out (like The Ramones theyve all got the same surname too  Sick). Throw in a killer band like the rockin King Salami & The Cumberland Three and youve got a seriously crazy night. Unmissable."

Stay Sick – An Alternative Live Music Night

Brighton has for many years been known for its diversity, offering any character some form of entertainment, but no matter who you are its easy to find yourself blinkered, religiously following one scene.  Walking in to Hectors House to review local band Buzz Saw Gangs  live music night I was completely unaware that I had got my dates wrong, at the bar I couldnt help but notice just how insane the crowd was, no two people the same, tattoos everywhere, hairstyles that must have taken hours and the most edgy and distorted fashions, it didnt take too long to realise I was at a Rockabilly night!  Above the stage hung a green logo, which had been so well done it added an extra theatrical element to this already obscenely flamboyant night.

I had my first rockabilly experience in September 2008, when a party of us decended upon the Engine Rooms, and straight away I knew that this was a scene I felt massively at home with, although I have yet to get my 1st tattoo, and the reality that there are no limits to individuality is really only just reaching my consiousness now, I cant help but feel an overwhelmingly positive feeling towards people capable of expressing themselves so freely, scanning Hectors House I couldnt help but be attracted to pretty much everyone there.

The downside to my experience at Stay Sick was the fact I had arrived too late to check out any of the live acts, instead I got to enjoy the work of the Stay Sick djs playing an amazing selection of jiveable and punk heavy tracks, whilst on a large screen enticing visuals, mainly of 50s films played out and had me and my friend mesmerised!  God bless him, when I explained that we had stummbled upon a rockabilly event he replied wow these guys have made a real effort thinking that they were all in fancy dress – that will be a story I re-tell for some time to come!

After a very successful 2008, Stay Sick and its sister night Goo Goo Muck have so far filled various venues every week with acts such as Radio City Riot, The Lords Of Altamont (USA), The Astro Zombies (France), The Mojo Kings, Who Owns Death TV and The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster having.  With many events being free to attend and future line ups including The Scrags (Sweden), The Guillotines, The Koffin Kats (USA) and The Devil Wrays we couldnt be any more insistant when we say go check it out!
